Volunteer

We are actively seeking volunteers with a variety of interests and skills to support Longleat Ward, we have a variety of placement opportunities on the ward for 2-3 hours per week between 8.00am – 7.30pm, 7 days a week. We are also looking for gardeners at Warminster Hospital, so that patients, staff and visitors can enjoy the outside space.

Volunteers need to be at least 16-years-old (no upper age limit) and be able to commit to 2-3 hours volunteering a week for a minimum period of six months. There may be circumstances where adjustments can be made to ensure volunteer recruitment meets the requirements of protected groups described in the Equality Act 2010.

Do you know anyone who may be interested in volunteering?

They would need to complete and submit the application form telling us about their skills and reasons for wanting to volunteer and we are required to carry out necessary recruitment checks. Training is necessary so that you are well informed of information and guidance for working in a confidential setting.

So where does the volunteer fit in?

Volunteers support the staff by undertaking simple activities and tasks on the ward ie flower arranging, supporting with playing board games, arts and crafts. Other roles can mean a patient has someone who has time to sit with them (to enjoy our gardens in the warmer months) and provide them with some company, especially those patients who have few visitors.

The volunteer will learn about the hospital and what it does and they can pass that learning on to friends, family and neighbours, often resulting them to want to join our team.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

· Meeting new people.
