The Positivity Tree

When the FOWH were first involved with the staff of Longleat Ward, we assumed that putting paintings and prints on the walls of the public rooms and corridors would be our role. We did not reckon with the enthusiasm which our project generated in the staff, initially and especially, the chief nurse who was determined to make Longleat Ward unique in every way.

The conversation began with a “can you paint on the walls” question, to which the answer was “I don’t know”! Liaising with NHS health and safety it was clear that we could, so long as we used washable paint, that is, emulsion of some sort. This is not an artists top choice, but needs must!

The first project is pictured: The Positive Tree, on which staff are asked to write encouraging things about one another on cut-out leaves. It makes heart-warming reading, and unites the staff in a very special way.
