About Westfield House

Westfield House is the house of theological studies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England. It exists to provide Lutheran theological education in the Cambridge context. Students come to Westfield House from all corners of the globe: as near as England as far as Madagascar and from many countries in between.

Westfield House offers an in-house education for training future pastors of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England, grants a Bachelor of Divinity degree to students pursuing this route through the University of London, and affords undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity for an exchange semester or year to take advantage of all that Westfield House and Cambridge University have to offer. It is a community brought together for this common purpose of theological study and vocational learning for church work students.

Westfield House’s student accommodations, Luther Hall, were completed in 2010. They can house 23 students over three stories. There are two shared kitchens, a shared dining room, and a large living room or lounge. At Westfield House students cook together and eat together. They engage in discussions about God and the world. They even play a little football – ‘sound mind, sound body’. Instruction takes place in very small groups – sometimes even on an individual basis with one of the tutors.

Westfield House shares an address with one of the world’s best universities. It is a unique setting for the learning and study of Lutheran theology under the guidance of tutors from various church bodies of the International Lutheran Council, from Cambridge professors and in the company of fellow students and theologians from all over the world.
